Setup and Units

The CAVE uses feet for measurement, and uses a Z-up world axis. Many modeling programs default to other units, like centimeters, and use a Y-up axis. In Maya, you'll need to change to Z-Up before starting anything - otherwise, all your models will import sideways. Go to Window->Settings and Preferences->Preferences, then click on Settings. Set the World Coordinate System's Up Axis to "Z".

Note that I've left the units set at "Centimeters", which are Maya's native units. Yes, the CAVE units are in feet, but centimeter measurements just turn into feet in the CAVE. SO, pretend that you have the units set to feet. The importance of measurement takes some getting used to because the CAVE tries to present 3D objects at the exact real size that you've specified.
